Why this new Tesla E-Bike is a game changer!
It is no secret that most of what Elon Musk ventures into becomes a success. From Tesla electric cars to Space X to Neura link and now we have reliable information that says Musk is going fully into the electric bike market this 2022. Would Tesla’s electric bikes succeed in beating competition like the European bike market? And how exactly do they plan to? Read more to find out!
Let’s start off with some background information about the Tesla e-bike first. The official name for the Tesla’s e-bike is the Tesla Model B. It is an electronic bike is designed by American designer, Kendall Toerner.
The entire concept of the e-bike is to serve as a bridge between conventional bicycles and road vehicles. It’s going to be like a combination of the features of the usual bicycles you see everyday and the road vehicles. Phenomenal right? Keep reading!
The design is said to be safer, more efficient, and less energy-intensive. It’s not going to be like the typical ones you’re used to seeing. The Model B’s sleek frame comes with forward, side-facing, and rear proximity and LiDAR sensors that scan the surroundings to create a protective bubble around the rider, alerting them of any obstacle.
So technically, it’s going to be like you’re driving a car but this time on two wheels. Speaking of wheels, each wheel comes with its dedicated motor, forming the Model B’s dual-drive system. Also, spokes on the wheels are replaced by shock-absorbers which would help to keep your ride smooth.
This is an aside because I know you may be wondering why this e-bike is built this way. Well, the design goal of Tesla’s e-bike is to combine the key advantages of bicycles and cars thereby accelerating the sustainability and efficiency of transportation in cities.
Now back to talking about the design of the Tesla Model B. The frame of the e-bike integrates foldout footrests and handlebars.
These handlebars don’t independently rotate though, rather they detect force, allowing you to turn by simply applying more force on a particular side. This isn’t the same as the front wheels, however. The front wheel turns independently, based on handle force input.
One key important feature of the electronic bike is that it comes with its autopilot feature that lets the bike’s own AI take over, using the multiple sensors on its frame as its eyes to maneuver the bicycle safely.
The e-bike also has a slick dashboard that sits flush within the bike’s frame, allowing you to see the bike’s statistics as well as set navigation for your reference, or the Tesla autopilot.
Just in case you’re wondering what colors this e-bike is going to be; especially for my ladies who may be thinking of getting a pink one or even different ones to match with the colors of their outfit. Well, sorry to burst your bubble because the Model B sports a stormtrooper color combo of white with black accents. These are the only colors that have been designed for now.
One key distinctive feature of the Tesla Model B is that it has two independent drive motors that afford the user power to drive up to any hill or out of dangerous situations. What I’m trying to say in other words is that the bike has full autonomy to get the user out of harm's way or guide them effortlessly to their destination.
From hearing all these features of the Tesla Model B, I’m sure you can understand why there is a huge chance they can take out the competition. Talking of competition by the way, who is Tesla Model B’s competition?
It’s none other than Cyclone E-bike. Of course, there are other competitors in the electronic bike market but Cyclone has been king in the market for many years now.
The cyclone electric bike runs for 93.2 miles per hour just like a gas motorcycle but it has pedals.
Now, this is why there are high chances that the Tesla Model B would take the crown from Cyclone. Already, I’ve explained the features of the Tesla Model B so I’m sure you know it beats it by far.
For one, the Tesla Model B is all-electric. To change the speed, all you will need is just a touch and it will bend to your wishes. There are no pedals and it’s like no bike we are used to. You may even start to ask me “Can we call this a bike?”
The self-driving feature of the Tesla Model B is no surprise though. We know already that Tesla electric cars make use of this feature so what was done was simply to switch this feature to an e-bike.
I’m curious to know. Would you like to have Tesla’s e-bike? Please tell me in the comment section. Also, would you prefer this Tesla Model B to the usual Tesla electric cars that we know like the Model Y. Let me know in the comment section as that would be very helpful to me in measuring statistics? Thank you!
Sources say that Model B is a part of a plan to eliminate previous stereotypes about electric bikes. The bike is also very different from traditional bicycles.
The Tesla e-bike
The turning system does not depend on rotating the handlebar instead the handlebar detects the force applied on one of the sides and also the front wheels in the desired direction.
Each of the wheels is propelled by its motor which means the e-bike will always have some power in the center of the handlebar while the screen keeps us informed of the bicycle statistics. Also, you can use a navigator to set your route whether you want to steer the bike or you prefer driving.
I’m just giving you a quick recap of the capabilities of this e-bike that has been said to save a lot of lives.
On the other hand, BMW has been trying to enter the electric car world with the BMWi4. In fact, the BMW i4 has declared war on the Tesla Model 3 but this won’t be the case with the Tesla e-bike.
The BMW i4
Now, the Tesla Model B e-bike would most likely cancel the BMW Motorrad Vision AMBY. AMBY stands for adaptive mobility by the way. Anyways, the BMW I Vision AMBY is supposed to look different than a standard e-bike. Rather than looking slim and slender, the AMBY is designed to look thick, strong, and durable. BMW also claims its design is a combination of e-bike and racing bikes.
Anyways, the Tesla e- bike despite its striking resemblance with the BMW Vision AMBY would beat its competitors with all its powerful features.
In terms of competitors, let’s talk about the European cycling market. According to fresh analysis from trade body umbrella CONEBI, the European cycling and electric bike market were worth 18.3 billion Euros in 2020.
Information also shows that of the 4.6 million electric bikes sold in Europe, as much as 80 percent (3.6 million) were assembled on the continent, this emphasizes a trend of reshoring and localized manufacturing that has been gathering pace. So, best believe Tesla would be definitely adding to these statistics.
Here’s a secret I want to tell you about Tesla’s e-bike.
The e-bike will support SpaceX’s styling satellite internet meaning it should be capable of high-speed downloads including streaming video into apps from online servers by connecting to Starlink. Now, how insane is that?
The Tesla Model B
This could also be the official Tesla e-bike of Musk's Mars colony. Also, we expect that the Tesla e-bike will sync with other Tesla products like cars and home batteries, and energy storage systems you can control. So of course, you can expect that it would need to have a tight firewall and security system to avoid hacking.
Although Tesla's e-bike has garnered a lot of praise, in the same vein it has gathered criticisms. Some critics have stated that this new design, especially the self-driving feature, was ruining the concept of riding a bike. I would like to know what you think about this so please tell me in the comment section.
Anyways, just like every device, there are always good and bad sides. There are particular things to like about Model B. I’m intrigued by the idea of pothole-sensing or stability-assistance technology. Also, I'm sure you would agree with me that the overall aesthetic is pretty unique and cool.
As Toerner, the e-bike designer notes in the presentation, far more people see cars as status symbols than they do bicycles. So these Gorgeous urban e-bikes might help change that.
Tell me what you think of Tesla's e-bike in the comment section. Are you a fan of it? Do you plan to get one? Please let me know below!
